There are lots of steps and stages in between the cylinders (where energy is released) and the wheels (where power is applied to the road) and, at each stage, some energy is wasted. For that reason, in the worst cases, as little as 15 percent or so of the energy that was originally in the fuel you burn actually moves you down the road. Or, to put it another way, for every dollar you put in your gas tank, 85 cents are wasted in various ways!

If this sensor is dirty or malfunctions, you are going to see a change in the RPMs. The problem could result in lower or higher RPMs.

After rinsing, spray liquid cleaner on the dirty parts and agitate the underside using a sponge. Work your way from top to bottom and focus on the areas around the engine (the non-covered bits), spraying the cleaner as you wipe with a sponge. In some areas, using a detailing brush or toothbrush is more suitable. Rinse with water when done. Remember to use a light spray.

However, according to posters in some online forums, if you ring a dealership on a perfect day, they may have a trade-in second-hand car with a blown engine they are happy to sell on.

This means that the contacts remain open for longer so less overall current flows in the circuit. The needle is linked in such a way that a low current equals a high gauge reading.
